Luis Cruz – Palo Santo Private Reserve Responsible
Since mid-2018, our goal has been to raise awareness about the importance of conserving this valuable ecosystem. Thanks to our actions, we have seen a notable reduction in logging and poaching.
However, we face significant challenges. The scarcity of precipitation hinders the natural regeneration of the forest, and free-range livestock grazing threatens biodiversity. Despite this, we have implemented preventive measures, such as perimeter fences, which have contributed to the gradual recovery of the area.
During the wet season, the Reserve comes to life with the greening of the forest and the presence of wildlife. However, during the dry months, trees suffer from water stress, a concern worsened by the effects of climate change across the region.
Despite these challenges, the Palo Santo Natural Reserve is still a vital refuge for wildlife and a reminder of the importance of protecting our natural environment for future generations.
